Joan Didion’s recently published Let Me Tell You What I Mean (Alfred A. Knopf, New York, 2021) is a collection of 12 essays she has written between 1968 and 2020. Reading her clear “incisive reporting and empathetic gaze” imparts a sense of profound relief which comes from understanding things you did not even realize you did not know.

This painting also embodies a certain feeling of relief, as lines and shapes realign, realign and explain themselves. You can finally relax, at last.
