MacLaren based this piece on memories tied to northern Michigan, where she’s spent a lot of time. Interested in abstracting emotional memories tied to place, she references the lakes, cottages, and dunes, with a pop of green representing nearby vegetation alongside the almost tropical turquoise water. She also captures the bright red lighthouse, which resides at the end of a pier there.
