Corduroy is a painting built with layers of information and mixed media stacked on top of each other, including drawing with sharpies and shapes made with colored oil pastels and other mark making tools. The top layer consists of 124 hand painted lines of oil paint, which serves to mediate and coalesce the divergent layers of underpainting, and creates multiple illusory effects that respond to light and distance.

The painting’s urge towards obfuscation winds up elucidating, with its reference to textiles and fabric, and the weaving together of divergent materials and ideas.
