Come Join Me Up Here | May 8 to 29

GVG Contemporary presents an exhibition featuring gallery artists Lori Schappe-Youens and Mary Tomás, in conjunction with Canyon Roads “Passport to the Arts” event, the weekend of May 8, 9 and 10, 2015. Kicking off the weekend is a Friday night reception on May 8th, from 5 to 7 pm.

“Come Join Me Up Here” is a two-person exhibition, featuring the work of Mary Tomás and Lori Schappe-Youens.

Mary Tomás is an oil painter from Dallas, Texas. In this body of work, she captures the subtle moments of spaces that occupy her day; quietude mixed with the staccatos of activity. The effect is a visual conversation, punctuated with her intrigue of line and form, light and shadow. She explores a thick paint modality as she weaves the story between two forces. A longing for contemplative breathing space, while balancing the active moments, is what inspires her work.

Lori Schappe-Youens divides her time between Wisconsin and South Africa. She is known for her whimsical narrative paintings and her abstracted landscapes, both of which reference and merge her two homes. Good humor and playfulness emerge, both in the paintings and in their titles.
